Stress and Kids

MNU-ICONS-HEALTH

We ran across an interesting study from the University of Helsinki in Finland regarding the effects of everyday exercise on stress levels in kids (via Parents Magazine).

Tracking children’s activity, scientists measured the amount of stress hormone cortisol in their saliva after performing high-pressure tasks, like telling a story in front of other kids or doing a math problem.  The most physically active children-those who spent about an hour a day doing vigorous activity-had barely any spike in cortisol compared with those who didn’t move as much.

We all know that exercise is a key element to a healthy adult lifestyle.  It also can have a positive influence on the lives of our children, too. Let’s get moving!
