News & Info: Measles Vaccine and Cancer

Hello, friends. Recently, the Mayo Clinic released information on a landmark study that cured a woman’s cancer with the measles vaccine.  Sound incredible? Read on.

Researchers used virotherapy in a revolutionary clinical trial last year, where they used the measles vaccine on a woman with myeloma. Injected in one intravenous dose (enough of the vaccine inoculate over 10 million people), it effectively killed the cancer cells in the patient’s body, and she has been cancer free for over six months.

“…The experiment provides the “proof of concept” that a single, massive dose of intravenous viral therapy can kill cancer by overwhelming its natural defenses, according to Dr. Stephen Russell, a professor of molecular medicine who spearheaded the research at Mayo.”

Now plans are underway to also test this method for other types of cancer, including brain, head and neck cancers and ovarian cancer.  The Mayo Clinic is moving ahead with the second phase of the clinical trial and they hope to have this methodology approved by the FDA in the next few years.

Pretty amazing! This just goes to show you that clinical trials are something to consider as part of your treatment, because you never know how it might turn out.  😀
