Jamie’s Gems – Let’s Dance and Forget

Our Jamie gives a another perfect “Gem” to remember as we move through our busy lives.

“Everyone ate and laughed and danced and forgot.  They forgot about deadlines and checking accounts and college and job applications and sickness and divorces and taxes and the minutiae of living.” (The Probability of Miracles)  Even if just for a moment, how wonderful would it feel to “forget”?  Forget about doctor appointments, forget about upcoming chemotherapy treatments, forget about pain management, forget about the daunting to-do list staring back at you, forget about the stack of bills piling up on the kitchen counter, forget about never ending medications, forget about tests and deadlines, forget forget, FORGET.

Our brains unfortunately are wired for survival, not happiness.  As a result we are constantly consumed with worries about jobs and our futures; overcome with fears that were born within us from past negative or scary experiences in our lives.  Because of this “survival” type of wiring, it is so easy for us to get stuck in repetitive cycles of worry and fear that constantly hinder and interfere with our ability to just be present in the here and now, enjoying the present moment for the moment itself.  I know many people say the more you love the more you worry & fear because you have SO much more to lose…but that is life!  Life is a big huge LOVE.  What is life without gravitating and falling in love with a massive number of people, places and things!  Living is loving and loving is living!  We all go through this journey gathering all the people and things we love and creating our own personal paradise.  Don’t be guided by fear….always LET LOVE guide and lead your way.

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” (Vivian Greene)

I know it’s so much easier said than done but if at all possible let’s make a conscious effort this week to try and remind ourselves that only THIS present moment matters, today, right here and right now.  Turn up that music and let’s dance and “forget…”
